One of the major problems faced in farms is flies. Large-scale farms such as pig farms, poultry farms, and cattle farms raise lots of animals in one place, creating an ideal environment for the breeding of flies. Constant harassment leads to stress disorder in both animals and humans, resulting in large economic losses, a 25% reduction in milk production, weight loss, a decrease in egg production, and 50 major diseases spreading such as salmonellosis, cholera, PRRS, bird flu, mastitis, conjunctivitis, parasitic diseases, etc.
Basic Fly Biology
Female fungus gnats deposit eggs in moist organic matter. They go through three stages of larva, as shown in the below picture. They feed on organic matter and then go through the pupal stage and become flies, breaking out of the pupa.
The potential reproductive capacity of flies is tremendous, and it only takes 7 days for the fly life cycle to be completed. In the next few days, the female flies will be able to lay eggs again, thus producing up to 30 generations per year. One pair of flies can produce millions of offspring in a single season.
In addition, flies can develop antibiotic resistance to almost any drug, decreasing its effectiveness. Therefore, a complete fly control program will be able to minimize antibiotic resistance.
Azamethiphos WP-10
A complete fly control program consists of three approaches:
• Use fly control products with different active ingredients (from different chemical categories)
• Interfere with each stage of the fly life cycle
• Use multiple drugs to control adult and fly larvae meanwhile
Azamethiphos WP-10 is an organic phosphorus wettable powder containing 10% picoline, sugar and fly sex pheromones. Attracted by sex pheromones, flies eat the active ingredient containing sugar for contact insecticide or stomach poison.
Azamethiphos WP-10 Dosage
Method 1: Coating (ground area of 200 square meters)
Mix 250g of Azamethiphos WP-10 in 200 ml of warm water until brushable liquid is formed, then apply 30 spots (10 x 30cm per spot) on areas where flies congregate.
Method 2: Fixed-point spraying (ground area of 200 square meters)
Mix 500 grams of Azamethiphos WP-10 in 4 liters of warm water, and use a power sprayer on 30% of the wall area, in main areas where flies often gather until the surface of the object is wet with some liquid flowing.
The best time to use is at the beginning of the fly season, when there are not a lot of flies, and one time of spray can keep 24 weeks. When a large number of flies reappear, spray again, preferably at the same time as cyromazine to control fly larvae, in order to achieve the best effect.
Result
Under laboratory conditions, after oral administration, Azamethiphos WP-10 showed higher efficacy than imidazole products.
Under laboratory conditions, Azamethiphos WP-10, compared with Snip 1% and QuickBait, appears to have the best effect.
After field use, it is shown that Azamethiphos WP-10 has an excellent effect of killing flies, and can maintain for a long time. It is also shown to work well against flies that have resistance to organochlorines or pyrethroids. Due to its oral stomach killing control, it is also effective in flies resistant to other organophosphate drugs.
Safety
The WHO classifies it as Category III: "slightly toxic to mammals", where it is completely absorbed in mammals, degraded, and then rapidly excreted in the urine. Carryover in tissue is extremely low all the time. Tests on goats have shown that the amount entering the body is limited, not exceeding 3% of the total dose.
For the environment, Azamethiphos can be degraded with a half-life of 6 hours in fertile sandy soil and under aerobic conditions. Due to the moderate filtering effect and its own degradation effect, the pollution of groundwater merely occurs. The degradation is pH-dependent underwater (it takes 260 hours at pH = 7 and 4.3 hours at pH = 9).
A complete fly control project with the dual action of contact and stomach killing by Azamethiphos WP-10 is an attraction and kill solution of high efficiency, superior to imidazole insecticides, and low carryover in mammals. It can be rapidly degraded in the environment, leading to the potential of quick and long-term effects on the farm.
